Definition of Plagiarism

Plagiarism is the act of using someone else’s work, ideas, or intellectual property and presenting them as one’s own without proper acknowledgment. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Copying text, figures, data, or ideas from other sources without proper citation.

  • Paraphrasing substantial portions of another work without crediting the source.

  • Self-plagiarism, which involves reusing significant portions of one’s previously published work without citation.

Types of Plagiarism

  1. Direct Plagiarism: Word-for-word copying without attribution.

  2. Mosaic Plagiarism: Blending phrases or ideas from multiple sources without proper citation.

  3. Self-Plagiarism: Reusing previously published work without citing the original.

  4. Accidental Plagiarism: Failing to cite sources or unintentionally paraphrasing content without acknowledgment.

Plagiarism Detection

  • All manuscripts undergo checks using reputable plagiarism detection software before peer review.

  • Manuscripts exceeding the acceptable similarity index (typically below 15%) may be returned for revision or rejected based on the extent of duplication.

Actions in Case of Plagiarism

Before Publication:

  • Manuscripts found plagiarized during review will be rejected, and authors notified.

  • Minor or unintentional overlap may allow authors to revise and properly cite the sources.

After Publication:

  • The journal will conduct a thorough investigation if plagiarism is discovered post-publication.

  • Actions may include:

    • Retraction of the published paper.

    • Publishing a notice of plagiarism.

    • Notifying the authors’ institutions or funding agencies.

Author's Responsibility

  • Ensure all data, literature, and ideas are properly cited.

  • Submit only original content and avoid academic misconduct.

  • Adhere to ethical standards to maintain the manuscript free from plagiarism.

Consequences for Plagiarism

  • Immediate rejection of the manuscript.

  • Banning the author(s) from future submissions for a defined period.

  • Informing the author’s institution or funding agency about the ethical breach.
